Daniela Shapiro wrote and illustrated the short graphic novel The Stories of Survivors as a rising college freshman. The book layers Holocaust survivor testimony and her own visit to concentration camps in Poland to compelling effect, and has been enthusiastically received by Holocaust education experts, Jewish community leaders, and comics professionals. In addition to other recognition, the book is currently part of the New Jersey Department of Education’s Holocaust education, and Daniela’s art was exhibited at Jewish Art Salon’s POW!!! Jewish Comic Art and Influence, in conjunction with Jewish Comic Con 2018.
Daniela is a student at The University of Rochester (Class of 2020), majoring in Philosophy with a Legal Studies minor. She performs as a member of Rochester’s Improv Comedy Troupe and was a winner of the 2017 UR International Theatre Program Outstanding Performance Award. She is passionate about moral philosophy and uses her artistic and storytelling skills to communicate her political and ethical views in innovative and relatable ways. She is currently working on a new graphic novel centered on the lives of a hospice care nurse and her patients.
